More Good News for February 22nd, 2024
The Prop pushes closer to the Sun, Toast Martinborough has a new home, NZ Bar Convent is announced and more good news - read on.
In an effort to prove this publication is worth your subscription, this edition of the round-up is without a doubt the biggest yet. In an endeavour not to overwhelm your inbox with every story, I’ve rounded up the news into one big drop.
Be sure and tell me what you think!
You can immediately scroll down for the feature on Andrea Marseglia, Two Paddocks solar mission, the sale of Toast Martinborough and the news on NZ Bar Convent or peruse what I’ve been up to with a couple of jobs in the offer….
In what I’ve been up to this week:
I was honoured to judging the Outstanding Food Producers awards in Auckland
I hosted Jo & Dave James from Juno Gin for dinner - yes, you too can come for dinner if you’re in town. It was great to dive into some story plans for the year and chat about industry progress and challenges, not to mention the very old cognac I rustled up from the cupboard. These sorts of gatherings in industry are so important - the opportunity to really know the makers and people that bring products to life, behind the business and behind the bar.
I confirmed a trip to Christchurch March 18th onwards and finishing on the West Coast March 22nd. Please do let me know what I shouldn’t miss, while I have plans to interview founding supporter Alex Ricketts at The Last Word and to spend some time at Whisky Galore
A few conversations about spirits categorisation have been floating as we get geared up for Awards season. The important thing to remember is that categories help consumers to understand what they’re choosing and judges to make fair assessment. Would you like to know more about how this works?
The questions I’ve been asked recently:
Do you know anyone looking for a duty manager role that could grow into a really hands-on spirits based tourism management role, outside of Auckland? Lots of growth potential.
Do you know anyone Auckland-based with wine hospitality experience looking for a community-centric role? They need to be a great human who wants to be part of crafting a unique central multi-site destination.
If you, or someone you know is interested in more information - don’t hesitate to get in touch and I’ll connect you.
In other wine news…
That’s practically enough for now. The updated Competitions and Events calendar is live and being updated daily. Don’t forget to share and engage.
And if you’ve got something you’d like to talk about — I’m ready to listen!
